BNP gain seat on London Assembly
The fascist BNP gained a seat on the London Assembly, polling 130,174 - 5.33% - just crossing the 5% hurdle needed to get elected. The BNP vote was particularly high - around the 18,000 figure - in Bexley & Bromley, City & East and Havering & Redbridge.
The BNP vote increased by 44% from 2004, however the BNP vote had increased by 90% from 2000 to 2004.
The turnout was 45.3%, increasing by 8.3% from 2004, indicating that there was some mobilisation of an anti-racist vote, but not by enough. A slightly higher turnout of 49% would have stopped the BNP from getting elected.
